The ghost town of Nelson, Nevada.

Just a few miles south of Las Vegas, Nevada is the pseudo-ghost town of Nelson, Nevada.

I label it a “pseudo” ghost town because unlike most ghost towns, Nelson actually has a few hundred residents. Most of the imagery from your visit there will be from the El Dorado Canyon Mine Tours operation just two miles outside of Nelson.

The website calls it the “Techatticup Mine. It’s the oldest, richest and most famous gold mine in Southern Nevada.”

For a few dollars you can join a guided tour of the town and a few off-limits areas around the set-up, which is well worth it according to Yelp reviews.

Another few miles down the road is an overlook of the El Dorado Canyon and the Colorado River.
