What is it?

What is it supposed to do?

Fill your belly with goodness, and none of the other junk food companies try to stuff into their products these days.

How do I cook it?

Instead of a can, these soups are served in pouches which come in handy whether you’re at home, on the road, or on the trail. Cook via microwave, small trail fire, camping stove, or stovetop. Although, in my own opinion, stovetop always makes soups taste better.

My thoughts on the product.

Sometimes with heavily manufactured soups you get a weird smell and look. That doesn’t happen with True Primal. The soup has a great smell as soon as you open the pouch and it looks appetizing.

I’m almost more impressed by what’s NOT in the soup as I am with the overall taste. It’s gluten free and Paleo friendly for those of you looking for those options.

It has no corn syrup, added sugar, preservatives, grains, corn, oats, rice, no artificial flavors or colors, no MSG, yeast or yeast extract, no soy or soybean oil, no beans, no dairy, and the list goes on and on.

None of that other stuff, but all of the flavor of pasture raised chicken and toss in the 25 grams of protein? Boom! … I’ve got a new favorite soup brand.

For anyone thinking about bringing it on the trail: because it’s not a dehydrated or freeze-dried meal, it’s got more weight to it. This may be a deterrent to some hikers who are looking at ultra lightweight options, but adding a pouch or two of these hearty soups for those cold nights may be worth the future extra ounces. Plus, the pouch also makes a pretty sturdy bowl.

Would I recommend it?

Absolutely. True Primal has a line of nine soup and chili varieties, as well as a few cookie options via sister company Ona. I’d like to try more of them in the future, but for now, I can honestly say that the Southwest-Style Chicken is darn tasty. From now on, I know where I’ll be getting my soup!
